It is all about Wilma...

Hurricane Blog: Wilma hit us as a number 3 hurricane. We are all well. But our neighborhood got pretty smashed, here is the blog and the pics:

Saturday, 6:00 pm, woot we got cable back :-)
Friday, 3:00 pm, all shelves with refrigerated or frozen goods are still empty at Publix. Many things are missing from other isles.
Thursday, 10:00 pm, the left half of Lincoln Rd Mall is still without power. So people can only eat at the restaurants on the right hand side. Gas stations have long lines. Police is guarding them.
Wednesday, 1:00 pm, MGM is still without power so Patricia is having some meetings at home. Telephone only works sometimes. Cable TV is still out.
Tuesday, 3:00 pm, we've got the power!!!
Tuesday, 9:00 am, we are still without power. The only news we are getting are via Germany. Luckily we still have water so things are not bad. Baby is taking it all very well, having fun with us.
Monday, 9:00 pm, we had a bottle of Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2002 (90 points) and went to bed early, as there is not too much to do if nobody in the area has electricity.
Monday, 7:00 pm, the only thing that is working is our cheap $5 telephone. It doesn't need power. So the only information we are getting about what happend here, is from people calling us, mainly from Germany. The bad news are, it can take weeks until power is back.
Monday, 3:00 pm, we did a little walk. Many people were out, almost everybody was taking pictures. The damage was extensive. But most people were in a good mood. Smiling, laughing, being nice to each other.
Monday, 12:30 am, the worst is behind us. Sky is starting to clear up, some people are walking in the streets. Damage seems to be extensive. It will probably take a few days until we get power back and I will able to upload this blog.
Monday, 10:30 am, we went down to the lobby. Wind was at its peak. A window of the Ritz Carlton was out. Pearl was taking it all very well.
Monday, 10am, the roof of the neighboring house came flying towards us. Pretty scary. Luckily gravity changed its path to a downward movement.
Monday, 7am, the storm woke us up, hammering against the windows. We did a quick video conference with Germany until we lost power. Wilma is worse than Katrina & Rita.
Sunday, 11:30 pm, we didn't have to evacuate. Wilma is now category 3 and we have a 55% strike probability for a direct hit. Going to sleep now. If we still have power when we wake up I will update this blog.
Sunday, 1pm, there is a possibilty that we will have to evacuate. In case of mendatory evacuation our building will cut off the power to make sure that nobody wants to stay. For insurance reasons they say.
Saturday, 1am, Wilma is still in Mexico, the projected Miami visit is now Monday 7pm.
Wednesday, 10am, evacuation of the Keys is starting today at noon.
Wednesday, 8am, Wilma is now category 5 and the strongest hurricane of all times. The predicted track is still pointing at us. Impact at 2am Sunday morning.
Tuesday 3pm, Wilma just got upgraded to a Hurricane and even though it already passed us and is now west of Cuba the latest 5 days forecast predicts it will do a circle and head straight at us..

the scariest moment for us was when the roof of the building next to us, came flying towards us. Luckily gravity took over before it reached our balcony and windows. This picture was taken a few seconds later...

parts of the roof on the cars below...

guess this huge metal piece must have fallen of our roof...

the lifeguard houses were ripped from their anchors and tossed around

in Washington Street most trees were topped over...

Espanola Way also looked a little roughed up...

This tree was on Euclid...
